Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni Addresses That “Love” Remark in Season 27 Premiere
Elliot Stabler is off duty.
Law & Order: Organized Crime has been canceled after five seasons, E! News confirmed April 16.
The Law & Order spinoff starring Christopher Meloni as Detective Stabler ran for four seasons on NBC from 2021 to 2024 before moving to Peacock last year for season five.
The Dick Wolf-created crime procedural followed Stabler returning to NYC's Organized Crime Control Bureau following a decade-long break from the police force.
Of course, Meloni is no stranger to saying goodbye to crime-fighting in the Law & Order universe.
After appearing alongside Mariska Hargitay's Det. Olivia Benson on Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for over a decade, Meloni hung up his fictional badge in 2011, walking away from the drama only to return for Organized Crime—and occasional appearances on SVU—10 years later.
And while fans have longed shipped a romance between Meloni and Hargitay's characters, he isn't totally opposed to giving the fictional crime-fighters their fairytale ending.
"Some conclusion to Benson and Stabler," the 65-year-old told People in November. "I think both characters, Stabler and Benson, should ride off into the sunset."
However, Meloni acknowledged the pair's complicated professional and personal histories make a happily ever after a little more difficult.

“For Benson and Stabler to get together, it’s hard! Hard,” he added of the idea of the pair having a "romantic relationship,” noting that there is an element of their friendship that makes things “sexy.”
“How well they know each other in kind of an upspoken way,” he continued. “I think it’s the dept of their friendship. And you know, they’ve made these stabs with these attempts of making this thing another thing.”
And while Benson and Stabler's possible future together remains up in the air with Organized Crime's cancellation, Meloni and Hargitay's real-life friendship remains stronger than ever.
“It’s a very unique feeling when we get together because it’s echoes and remembrances of what we once were,” he told People. “What we are now and no one else can bridge that gap or has that journey or has that connection.”
