Tom Brady Alludes to the “Challenge” of Gisele Bündchen Divorce
Tom Brady was playing through the pain.
The 48-year-old recently reflected on his last NFL season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which began in the fall of 2022—right around when he and his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen announced their divorce.
“My last season was tough,” Tom told The Herd in an interview shared Jan. 15. “I was going through—I had a lot of, you know, a personal family issue. And it was a challenge.”
In fact, the turmoil in his personal life took its toll on the field. As he added, “It just took a lot out of me in terms of my ability to play.”
While Tom signed on to play with the Buccaneers for two years following his departure from the Patriots after 20 seasons—during which time he lead the Florida team to a Super Bowl win in 2021—after which he announced his retirement in 2022.
That fall, however, he confirmed he’d be playing one more season with Tampa, which ended in an 8-9 record.
“I had 23 years of [football] so I didn’t think I was missing anything, retiring,” he explained. “I felt like I always had a goal—45. I was 45 years old, I wanted to spend time with my kids.”

“I felt like, ‘Okay, now it’s time for me to be at all my kids’ games,’” he said. “’They’ve been to enough of their dad’s games.’”
But before he left the game behind forever, he endeavored to put his best foot forward.
“I felt like I owed to my teammates and coaches to give them everything I had," he said. "I wish it could have been a little bit better at the end. But it was just a unique situation and a unique year for me.”
Now, years into his retirement—and shortly after his ex-wife Gisele welcomed a baby with her new husband Joaquim Valente—Tom recently shared an update on how he’s faring in his personal life.

As it turns out, his schedule is full to bursting.
"You know what? I don't have much time for a personal life or much time for myself,” Tom told People in an interview published Jan. 14, “but I love working and I love my kids."
The 48-year-old added, "I like to be busy and try to really stay fulfilled in the things I'm doing, so I'm working on some really cool projects and I'm involved with some great teams of people that are doing some really positive things."
