Euphoria fans have been in the trenches. The hit HBO series was renewed for a third season back in 2022, but it took four whole years to get to air. The lengthy delay led many fans (and even its own cast) to wonder if the series is coming to an end. And now we have an official answer.

As Season 3 aired, HBO refrained from confirming whether it was the final season or not (even though there were some pretty big clues that the show was ending). But after the season’s finale aired on May 31, the network officially revealed that Euphoria had just ended for good.

This isn’t the biggest shocker. Zendaya had already hinted at the series concluding. When she was was asked if Season 3 is Euphoria’s final season during her April 6 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she responded, “I think so,” later adding, “Closure is coming.”

The topic had been addressed by HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi a year earlier. “It’s been discussed that this is the end,” Orsi told Deadline in February 2025. “I think you will be very satisfied with this season, and how we bring each of the characters’ whole narrative,” she said.

On top of the third season suffered significant production delays, its main cast has also skyrocketed to much higher levels of fame than they were at when the show premiered in 2019. Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo, and more are currently more focused on buzzy movie careers. Not to mention, creator Sam Levinson has faced unsavory workplace allegations on his other HBO show The Idol.

The age of the main cast was another issue with continuing the story. Season 3 implemented a significant time jump to move years after high school, since the stars are now mostly in their late 20s. This leap forward likely wasn’t part of the original plan.

Although HBO waited a while to actually confirm Season 3’s finale was also the series finale, anyone who watched the last episode had probably already deduced it was the show’s ending. Now, Rue’s story is officially over.
